RARITIES IN PICTURES
This is a selection of a substantial series that was the first
that I created using digital photomontaging, beginning in 1999.
The source material for all is a set of studio photographs that I
took of myself reflected in a rippling pool of water. Though the
theme of 'body' vs 'spirit' was a thematic starting point, when I
worked on individual images I didn't follow a set thematic or
visual agenda. I experimented until I liked something or had
myself an association that I then worked out.
I always thought of these works as some sort of
'afterimages' - a visual memory of a bad childhood dream or other
moments of mental disquiet, trauma, bodily or social anxiety.
